we dance to protect wildlife
Unknown Species /ʌnˈnoʊn ˈspiːʃiːz/
exist, but has not yet been formally identified, named or protected we curate music that resists classification and events where value flows after the night ends.
Unknown Species exists at the intersection of experimental electronic music and ecological urgency.
in 2016 we became species of our own, discovering, curating and creating a space for fractured rhythms, leftfield techno, experimental drum 'n' bass, and more… what started as a podcast series of over 100 episodes, now became a network of artists and a community of humans.
we aim to make a change, to show that the nightlife and the music scene care for what is unseen, untouched, unknown. part of what we make protects the wildlife, because we dance not just for joy, but for survival, theirs and ours.
our event series is never for profit, we redistribute our revenue to support artists appearing and the species disappearing. we are proud to have donated to the coral reef alliance, blue climate initiative and the london wildlife trust.
the music scene got safe by becoming boring. we do safe differently, a space where everyone belongs, discrimination isn't tolerated, but the music still has permission to change you, challenge you, maybe even break you a little.
we dance to protect wildlife.

Unknown Species is a not-for-profit community interest company: an independent, artist-led platform operating outside commercial norm. we're sustained through ticket income, sponsorships and direct support.
donations protect the structure: the quality of our events, and ensure surplus can be redirected towards wildlife conservation instead of being absorbed by operational pressure. this isn't about expansion. it's about preserving the conditions experimental music needs to exist on its own terms.
we're open to collaborations with venue owners and organisations interested in hosting or supporting future events.
we'd love to hear from you, feel free to get in touch!
